Chapter 4: Romiou

The humming sound of the chartered airplane was music to his ears. They were flying over Italy and Ian looked out and remembered all the wonderful childhood memories he had of the country. He smiled but brushed the thoughts away. “I need to refocus and concentrate on my next book,” he thought. “I can’t let setbacks bring me down—not again.”

He turned to his left when he heard Billy snoring. He wanted to stick his Apple Pencil inside his mouth, but he knew his best friend needed sleep if he wants him to accompany him in exploring the island of Cyprus.

He sighed and launched Safari on his iPad Pro. Romiou, he typed and clicked on search.

A small town facing the majestic view of the Mediterranean across the island from Nicosia. The village, with its 800 residents are used to welcoming thousands of tourists from all over the world to gaze at the picturesque Petra Tou Romiou, the birthplace of the goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite. Swim three times around the rock and locals said that you will achieve eternal beauty. Some even said that you will find true love if you bathe under the rock. Nobody knows if they’re true, but there’s certainly no harm in trying.

Tip update: Celebrate Potmore Festival with the locals and reenact the driving away of the Romiou witches almost 2000 years ago. Go to www.potmorenight.com to receive free drinks vouchers.

Ian pouted his lips and typed, the missing witches of Romiou. He scratched his head and wondered why there was not much information about them. “I need to interview locals to get information,” he thought, making a mental note. “And why in the world is the festival called Potmore?” He breathed out and decided that it was perhaps because many people there have Potmore as their last name.

At last, he looked out into the clouds and he himself began to doze off.
